Ears deserve some pretty Valentines too! It’s *GIVEAWAY* time!

by Creative Junkie on February 11, 2010

If you read my blog, you know how strongly I feel about Harry Mason and his earrings. And if you don’t? Well, shame on you. Now go sit in a corner and write at least one hundred times I WILL READ THIS BLOG EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE UNTIL I DIE. AND IF THERE IS A HEAVEN, LET IT HAVE FREE WI-FI.

Know where Harry’s been for the past several weeks?

Hawaii.

Jealous much? I am. Because I am currently staring at a frozen white tundra of hell outside my window. And just because I’m staring at it through the prism of 376 enormous icicles doesn’t make it any prettier.

These are the new Spinfinity Spirals from Harry. Are they not gorgeous? I would call him up to give him a high-five over the phone but he’s not taking calls. You can’t take calls when you’re busy snorkeling in the Pacific.

I, on the other hand, am at liberty to take all the calls I want since I am not snorkeling. That’s one of the benefits of being surrounded by a frozen white tundra of hell.

Aren’t these lovely? They make me want to actually get dressed so I can look pretty while not snorkeling in a frozen white tundra of hell.

Harry’s probably sitting on the Black Sands Beach in Maui.

Harry and me, we’re polar opposites!

Get it? Polar? As in arctic? As in *brrrrrrr*?

I slay me!

Get it? Slay? As in “sleigh?”

Nevermind.

Aloha Harry! By the way … THESE ARE BEAUTIFUL!

Sorry I’m shouting. Just want to make sure you heard me over the roar of the ocean and tinkling of ice cubes.

Guess what? I went to Hawaii in the eighties. I think I was fifteen? Sixteen, maybe? My father used all of his frequent flier miles to fly our family first class to Hawaii to visit my sister. We flew on a 747 which is basically a cruise ship with wings. I ate steak on real china and sipped champagne from real crystal and made out with Kevin, the hot male flight attendant who had no idea he was contributing to the delinquency of a minor at the time. This would be the same Kevin who refused to contribute to the delinquency of another minor, specifically my twin brother Tino, who had also requested champagne and who was promptly denied the same by Kevin because (1) my twin brother was obviously underage; (2) Kevin was a few fries short of a Happy Meal; and (3) Kevin was busy nuzzling my neck.

I found this pretty funny but Tino did not and as he sat on his own overstuffed couch, he glared at me. I think he wanted to squeal on me and tell my parents that their jailbait young daughter was being groped and plied with alcohol, albeit willingly, but my parents were sitting in the row in back of us which was about two miles away and the seatbelt light was on.

We stopped off in Vegas where I was allowed into the same casino that barred Tino because he was underage so while I played the slots for a bit, Tino glared at me from the sidewalk, stomped off  and shortly thereafter got propositioned by a prostitute which mollified him a bit.

By the way, you can send all nasty emails about my parents’ lack of supervision on this trip directly to my mother. She needs something good to read. Her library sucks.

Some of Harry’s classic Ear Spirals. Pure yumminess.

Hey Harry, did you go to Mount Kilauea? Isn’t it surreal? It erupted in 1983, almost exactly one year after I stood right on top of it, and it’s still erupting today.

I now repeat the affirmation I AM NOT A JINX, I AM NOT BAD LUCK each and every time I look in the mirror. I’m not sure the good people of Hawaii believe me though. It’s hard to remain positive, considering I’ve been put on the No-Fly list for any destination susceptible to natural disasters.

I don’t get out much.

And yes, as a matter of fact, I do happen to live on the east coast even though you can’t see a lot of our pretty states because old man winter threw up all over us.

I AM NOT A JINX, I AM NOT BAD LUCK.

Some of Harry’s Ear Fancys. Don’t you just love that name? It’s so completely appropriate, don’t you think?

We island hopped during our trip and while on Maui, we woke up at 3:00 a.m., and drove to Mt. Haleakala to see the sunrise because that is what tourists do when they visit Maui. It turned out to be a rare, gray, overcast morning and even though I’m quite sure the sun rose at some point somewhere in Maui that day, we never actually saw it.

I AM NOT A JINX. I AM NOT BAD LUCK.

We did, however, see the Silversword plant, a rare species of plant found only on Mt. Haleakala and which blooms only once in its lifetime before it dies. None were in bloom while we were there.

I AM NOT A JINX. I AM NOT BAD LUCK.

Now that I am the ripe old age of 43, I’m sure I would appreciate the simple beauty of the unbloomed Silversword plant. But to a fifteen/sixteen year old, it was totally not worth waking up at 3:00 a.m., to stare at what amounted to a silver chia pet on top of a freaking cold mountain.

Some of Harry’s ear threads. These are so cool. I think they’d look fantastic with shorty short punkified hair. Which means I might have to get myself a pair soon, much to my family’s dismay.

Oh, and while on Maui, we drove the road to Hana. For those of you unfamiliar with this feat, the road to Hana is a misnomer in that it’s not so much a road as it is a fifty mile stretch of WHAT IN THE HELL ARE WE DOING HERE? HOLY SHIT, WHERE’S THE ROAD? WHERE’D IT GO? OH MY GOD, A CAR’S COMING. BACK UP, BACK UP, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, BACK UP! WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE. PLEASE STOP THROWING UP ON ME. The entire route is the shape of a giant herniated intestine, teetering on the edge of approximately 732 Holy Mother of God cliffs.

The road to Hana is an exercise in “it’s not the destination, it’s the journey” and if you can stand to open your eyes, the views are stunning and breathtaking. Provided you have any breath left for the taking, what with all the hyperventilating and myocardial infarctions going on. And at the end, you can even buy yourself a “I Survived the Road to Hana” t-shirt!

Please just remember one thing … you have to drive back.

People always forget that.

Total eye candy. Ear candy? Oh, what the hell. It’s a multiple eargasm. We’re all adults here, right? Let’s just call it like we see it, shall we?

I’ll leave you with a couple more memories of my Hawaii trip. My sister took my brother and me to see Stevie Wonder in an outdoor concert on Oahu. It was my first concert ever and even though Paul McCartney didn’t show up to sing Ebony and Ivory like we had hoped, it was still awesome.

Not quite as awesome as seeing my sister’s two roommates the next day as they came bursting out of their bedroom right after having sex, he shirtless and she pantless, as we all stood there speechless and, in the case of my parents, clueless.

So … what’s up for grabs?

.

One person will win a $100 shopping spree to Harry Mason Designer Jewelry, at his online shop or at any of his stores! If you love Valentine’s Day, buy yourself something nice to celebrate. If you’d rather gouge your eyes out with a spork than celebrate anything related to Valentine’s Day, go ahead! Then scream SCREW YOU, CUPID and buy yourself something nice to distract your attention from your bleeding eyeballs. It’s all good!

Oh, and don’t forget to use Harry’s wishlist feature. Comes in very handy if you were born with a short term memory that is measured in nano seconds.

***WE INTERRUPT THIS POST FOR A SPECIAL BULLETIN ***

If you do not win on Monday, all is not lost. Harry is offering a $25 shopping spree with any $100 purchase to all entrants. Simply email Harry at harry mason @ harry mason . com (delete the spaces, please!) and include a copy/paste of the comment you entered in this post. Make sure to put “BIGO” in the subject line so he knows you’re not spam. Isn’t Valentine’s Day hard enough without being mistaken for a stinky gelatinous pile of mystery meat?

The scoop:

  • To enter, leave a comment in this post and tell me one place you’d like to go for a vacation. Are you a snow bunny? A sun worshipper? A spelunker? Would you like to trek through the Amazon? If so, what the hell is the matter with you? ARE YOU AWARE THERE ARE GINORMOUS BUGS THERE? As for me? I’d like to go on a cruise. I don’t care where it sails to since I don’t intend to ever leave the buffet.
  • Anyone 18 or older can enter. Wouldn’t you like to be 18 again? I mean, just in body only? Not in mind. God forbid. If you think I was stupid at 15/16, you should have seen me at 18.
  • The shopping spree expires thirty days from winner notification.
  • Winner must confirm notification within 48 hours or I’ll have to choose an alternate. Please don’t let that happen! It makes me ill. I’ve already thrown up several times this week thanks to the stomach bug. At this rate, I’ll reach my goal weight in approximately 47 minutes but it won’t matter because I’ll be dead. Skinny but dead nonetheless.
  • If you have trouble setting limits, like me, you can spend more than $100 and simply apply the $100 to your total due.
  • No entries after 9:00 pm eastern time on Sunday, February 14, because HELLO? That is VALENTINE’S NIGHT! And if everything goes according to plan, I will be sacked out on the couch in my jammies watching the Olympics and unable to speak because my mouth will be broken from the sheer amount of chocolate covered caramels I fully intend to stuff into it.
  • I will use Random.org to choose the winner. Random.org treats everyone equally. In fact, I bet my nine year old wouldn’t mind it being her mother because then she’d be able to watch a PG-13 movie too, just like her older sister.
  • One entry per person, please! Your comment might go into moderation for a bit but it will show up! Multiple entries from one person make me want to hurl and if this week is any indication, I can hurl stuff the likes of which you have never seen.
  • I’ll announce the winner on Monday!

That’s it!

Maika’i Pomaika’i! I think that’s Good Luck in Hawaiian, but for all I know, I might have just called you a crooked kumquat. I’m sorry. I don’t know what I’m doing.

I’ll leave you with some sage advice Harry emailed me:

If it weren’t for the outfit, I’d be a bit suspicious that Larry the Cable Guy is hiding somewhere in Harry’s family tree.

First let me say that I LOVE HARRY MASON JEWELRY – it is the only place wher I can get my ear cuffs that I love to wear!!! as to where I would like to go – that would have to be Ireland (England is a very, very close second and that seems appropriate seeing as how they are neighbors!) – I am 1/2 Irish and would love to see the land from whence my ancestors hale!!

I want to go to the Impenetrable Forest in Bwindi and see the forest gorillas. It’s supposed to be awe-inspiring and scary, and the opportunity of a lifetime. Of course, I would wear my Harry Mason earrings, although if a silverback gorilla decided they’d look better on his “woman” I’d pee my pants and then hand them right over.

Am heading to Europe in August, can’t wait ! Would be extra exciting if I had some more of Harry’s designs with me :)

I would like to go to Cape Town, South Africa. I lived there for five months in college and have been dying to go back ever since. Unfortunately I was a full time volunteer for the first two years after college and have yet to make up for that financially…
It will happen eventually.

Even though I get cold easily, I’d like to go to Antarctica. While there’s still some ice. My late father went, and he absolutely loved it – the beauty of the landscapes, ice bergs, and the wildlife. All wonderful. So that’s my travel wish.

My next dream vacation will be Hawaii…..although if something else comes up somewhere else……..I will most likely go there. If it’s warm. And has mountains. Or water. Just not snow……

Lauren February 12, 2010 at 6:01 pm

If I could go anywhere I would go to Thailand and ride elephants! They are such amazing creatures and I would absolutely love to see them in the natural environment.

I just lost my Mom on February 1, and a vacation without her is a hard Valentime to contemplate. If I were to enjoy any kind of vacation, in honor of her, it would have to be a cruise, something we always wanted to do, and would laugh about when we’d “cruise for an hour on the Cape May Ferry”…

109

I want to go to Thailand and hang out on the beach

My Harry Mason earrings remind me of a wonderful trip to San Franciso with my mom. She purchased my ear spirals for me and we had a fun time chatting at the store. These earrings can’t be lost, even while on the seat of a Harley!
My trip of dreams would be American Samoa. I always say, ‘I’m off to Pago Pago!’.

I’d like to go to England because that’s where I’m from and I don’t get to see my elderly parents near often enough. Although if I want a lot of rain there’s always Seattle and the lack of a 9-hour flight. :) I’ve also never been to Australia, that sounds good too. Or I could combine a visit home to England with a side trip to some of the European countries I have yet to visit. Ooh, or how about Egypt, is it safe to travel there these days? For the record, I am the proud owner of half a dozen of Harry’s beautiful eargasms, a girl can never have too many eargasms!

Greetings!

Well, I would like to go to Catalina for a week. The ride over is accompanied by many dolphins racing along with you. The island peaceful…just little golf carts running all over the place. The Wrigley Memorial is not to be missed, not to mention the couple of miles to get there past the old Chicago Cubs field, the golf course, horse-riding stables, botannical gardens and that great BIG marble Wrigley Memorial with a couple of hundred steps up to the top, which then gives you a V view back to town and beyond in Avalon Bay.

Gotta go…I think I’ll call the airlines!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all!

Where would I like to go? How about Hawaii, but not in rainy season. Harry Mason earrings – my favorites! …. since Harry used a fish tank on it’s side for a display case. Just added a new pair to my collection, but now I want the same style in silver, so am hoping to be a winner.
Thanks, Andy….. & thanks Harry Mason!

This is just about the funniest stuff I have ever read. Fits in with my personality perfectly. As for the earings, last count I think I have 16 pair. Not enough and nothing new. Wish I had a new pair. Was in Hawaii 1/200 for my youngest daughters wedding. They are returning to Maui for their 10th (sans 4 kids, all girls and future Harry fans), think I would love to go to Maui and bug the hell out of them. It would get me on a beach and away from the friggin cold/snow in Reno. Would also love to be on Pier 39 at Harrys place trying on some new stuff………….PICK ME……..

I would LOVE to go to Hawaii. I think the beaches and drinks would be the best ever. 2nd choice would be Ireland. Can you imagine horseback riding through Ireland. Been dreaming of that for years. Bye the way, love your blog. Got a great laugh about your jinx and the snow falls.

I would love to drive across the US. I think it would be great fun to see all the diversity this country has. We have so much beauty here that I would love to explore. Of course I would wear my Harry Mason earrings everywhere and tell everyone they have to visit San Francisco because it is a must see. I love the new styles of earrings … I could really use the $100 to expand my collection.

134
Amy February 12, 2010 at 6:24 pm

You are an awesome writer! I came to enter the contest, but I’ll keeping coming back to read your blog! I’ve been a fan of Harry Mason’s for eight or nine years, even though I rarely have the money to spend on more fun stuff. Still, I tell everyone who comments on my earrings about the website!

I’d love to go back to Alaska. Yes, the mosquitos are huge but the scenery makes up for that

I’d love to go back to San Francisco.

I love it there and it’s where I first discovered Harry Mason of course! :)

137

I also want to go on a cruise. Won’t happen this year but maybe next. I also don’t care where I go on the cruise, all the fun stuff is onboard the ship! Alaska would be a nice stop though if we must stop and get off somewhere…lol!

Oh! I forgot to write where I’d like to go for vacation. Umm… everywhere! I think I’d love to visit New Zealand in the spring… same goes for Ireland. I’ve been lucky enough to go on one cruise years ago and I’d love to go on another. Maybe to the Carribean next time.

Not big on bugs-but love vacations! I think I would love to go to St. Thomas, Virgin Isl. again, the water is so beautiful! I visited the Pier 39 store at X-mas time, brought my neice from Vallejo and purchased her her first Harry Masons!!! It was very exciting…I love that I can go on line because I live 3 hours away from SF. Love all your product!

I’m not much of a snow bunny, because when I finally went up to the mountains to learn snowboarding, playing in the snow was really boring. I didn’t like it at all. I like the beach, because it’s windy and sunny, but there’s really nothing to do either. I would like to go somewhere where the scenery is just breath taking. Most of the time when my family and I drive to the beach or the mountains it is BECAUSE of the beautiful scenery that we will be passing by on the way that I really look forward to, not the fact that we are going to the beach or mountains, but the breathtaking scenery. That’s why I would love to go to Ireland or New Zealand. I could walk for days just looking and taking pictures of the beautiful scenery and I’d be content.

I’ve been dreaming of going to Italy for most of my life. So that’s where I’d like to go. I almost made it too. FIL offered to fly us there this coming spring, but then surprise! I’m pregnant. And instead of frolicking around Italy with Dh, I will be pushing out a baby this spring. Kid better be worth it. ;)

Oh and my Dh will be cursing your name soon for introducing me to Harry Mason. Man, is his jewelry gorgeous!

Someday I will be the only one to enter one of your giveaways and actually win. Well, maybe not, you have way too many followers (does that make you a cult leader?) ;) I want to take the family on a Disney cruise (I know, sad, isn’t it?). Or Hawaii. Need to win the lottery for that one though (don’t suppose you’re giving away lottery tickets anytime soon?) ;) Enjoy your Valentine’s Day and I hope you get lots of chocolate covered caramels. I will be visiting my family with the kids and leaving hubby at home, so nothing for me…guess I will go to the store on the 15th and get all the half-priced candy instead…

I just counted my Harry Mason Earrings, (20) pairs although it feels like i have a lot more, I wear them every day and everywhere I go from across the US to Canada, people have stopped me and said “Where did you get those earrings; then I direct them to http://www.harrymason.com on line. I would love to go to the Greek Isles, but that looks very impossible. But my dream anyways. I’ve been to your store in San Francisco, and Del Mar, CA when you had the fair. (I live in Oregon). All is well.
Keep making your special earrings Harry. Love them…..

I would love to take a vacation to the Amazon. I know, I know, the insects there can probably carry my luggage, but I still want to go. At least before the companies down there cut down the entire jungle. Just going on vacation is wonderful. Getting out of town, whatever town you live in is the best. Harry Mason Earrings are so fantastic. My husband found the store for me a long time ago and let me buy all of the earring that I wanted. One time I think I walked out of the store with 20 pair of earrings. Still love them and they are so superior to the ones that copy his work. I am sure that I could use $100 to begin my shopping spree.

Since I’m a Cali-ocean girl at heart having to move to the desert in Arizona for work, I really have had a yearning to visit San Francisco again, visit Alcatraz, Pier 39, China Town, Haight-Ashbury district again, Golden Gate Park, even live there if I ever win the lottery (haha)! I would also love to visit Australia some day. And love-love-love your earrings of which I’m a newbie for! Thanks for the opportunity to enter this contest!

I would love to go back to So. Padre Island, in Texas that we visited years and years ago and had such a good time that we have never forgotten it and it would be the perfect place to wear as many of Harrys sparkly earrings as I can get in my ears at one time and the sun glinting off each one of them would be just fantastic! My dream vacation is a culinary tour to Italy! Of course, I’d probably come back 10 pounds heavier!

I love Harry Mason’s jewelry. It’s gorgeous.

Luv your earings. My husband got me hooked on them. Would love to go downunder. Never been to Australia, but hear there is so much to see and do there. Luv those Koala Bears. Thank you for the chance to win. I am from NJ, but out here on business to avoid the snow, if I win, I can use the $100 credit next week in your store.

I would love to see the Pyramids in Egypt. I will some day.

I also love Harry’s earrings, and I have many of them. Hoping for another pair on V Day!

Greece.
I have dreams of a white sand beach, beautiful blue water, and an attentive cabana boy.

(While my husband’s doing something else, so he doesn’t notice the drool on my chin.)

I feel that I MUST go to Greece in my lifetime, it looks so gorgeous, and all that history there!!

I would love to go to Turks and Caicos. Scuba diving, sunning, sailing, and relaxing. I just got laid off from my job, so what better to go! Love the ear fancies. I’ve already picked out what I would buy when I win…

My husband and I would love to go back to our honeymoon spot (the H-spot). Nothing is more romantic than Tony Robbins’ resort Namale in Fiji. We were married in 1996 and it is well over our 10 year plan to visit the H-spot again.

Ahhh…my most desirable vacation place is St. Thomas VI. Cobblestone Streets, light rain in the afternoon and a lot of lushes foilage. You wear shorts and flip flops everyday and sip fruity drinks. No one beeps at you as you slowly cross the street. They know you are there to relax.

Yes St. Thomas VI is my ultimate dream place.

Great blog. It made me laugh out loud.

I’d love to take another “girls trip” with my Mom to San Francisco. What a great city…shopping and lunch at the Neiman Marcus Rotunda…followed by more shopping at Harry’s pier 39 store…followed by more yummy dining…did I say we wanted to go shopping! It’s a good thing there is a free buns of steel workout on on all of those hilly street or we might be in trouble.

I would love to go on a world trip. I would love to see different countries, different cultures. I wish I had enough money to buy and rebuild or recreate a castle, add in mondern amenitites but keep the feel of it when it was built or still in use (furniture, details, etc.) and turn it in to a world class hotel.

I LOVE Harry’s earrings. I especially like the ear fancy and the ear threads. Good thing I don’t live close to San Fransisco because I’d always be broke!

I’d like to take a cruise up the Pacific coast to Alaska then spend a coupleof weeks on land looking at bears and salon runs and anything else that is hard to find in other parts of the world. The a leasurely cruise back home.

It’s hard to pick one. I do want to do a full tour of Great Britain some day but right now, with this snow, any warm beach in tropical waters would be a treat.

Definitely the San Juan Islands, the perfect setting for a romance novel. Gorgeous!

Love love love the ear spirals!! *sigh* So pretty!

I spent 10 days in Sweden in 2007 and would love to go back there. Everything about the trip was FANTASTIC, but I especially loved hanging out with the Sami people. Someday, I’ll go back again. :)

Love your writing style and this is a wonderful promotion! I love Harry and his gorgeous jewelry and have collected them for the past 25 years since the first time I met him at a Harvest Festival in San Francisco! I would love to take my Mom back to Italy (Florence in particular) for a wonderful vacation. We took a trip together in 2000 and had a fantastic time- I’d like to return to the places we wished we could spend more time in and enjoy them longer. We had such fun visiting sites, museums, art galleries, shopping, meeting amazing people, drinking lovely wine and eating the unbelievable food…not to mention the coffee, which is the best in the world! Happy Valentine’s Day to you too! Hope the
frozen tundra melts soon and you get some warmth and sunshine!

the world!

Ooooh, I would actually like to go on vacation to Trinidad and Tobago. My mother is from there and I know nothing about it, except for what I’ve seen on television travel specials. I would like to take the hubs. And leave the kids at home. I want to take them later when they are old enough to know, where their family comes from!

I really want/need to go somewhere warm right now! Costa Rica sounds ideal, but I’d settle for Corpus Christi or Santa Ana or the Florida Keys. Anyplace there’s no snow.

OK – I’m sort of feeling badly about all of the snow in the rest of the U.S., but I’m secretly gloating that I was smart enough to ditch central Illinois and the constant ice storms in 1988 and move to southern California, i.e. PARADISE. Sometimes it actually gets cold enough to warrant wearing a jacket to work in the morning. That said, I do love to travel. I spend a month in Spain each summer and last summer I went to China, which was amazing! But I yearn to see South America, specifically Argentina and Perú. I want to climb Machu Picchu before my knees go!

A river cruise in France…oh ya….I am planning this for my 30th wedding anniversary. I am taking the man of my dreams – still my best friend — after all these years. We begin in France’s legendary capital of Paris, then travel along the Seine through the Norman countryside to the historic Normandy beaches before returning to Paris. Transfer to Chalon-sur-Saône to embark on the second half of our grand tour of France, finding artistic inspiration in the colors and sunlight of Burgundy and Provence. Vive la France! Oh ya…with Harry’s earrings dripping from my ears!!!

For quite a while ive wanted to go to the panama canal. The easet side of Mexico i guess. More on a cruise. ive always wondered what it would be like to go through the panamal canal. i guess its not really a ‘WOW, that would be totally awesome!’ kind of place, but just a place ive always wanted to go for a vacation/site seeing event.

I would love to go to Cabo San Lucas and sit on the beach in the sun during the day and party in the bars at night wearing some spectacular ear spirals, cuffs – and clothes. I lust for his earrings.

I’d love to go somewhere warm and without snow! Winter is winding down, but I’m ready for sun now. Valentines day in Hawaii — I think I could do that!

197

At this point in winter, I would just like to go someplace warm, with sunshine and no snow…..well okay it can snow as long as it stays at least 75 degrees ~evil grin~!!!!

Where I’d like to go on vacation – Pony trekking in Iceland in the summer. For about a month. It’s a beautiful country, rugged, but beautiful, and though it’s been many years, I’ll bet there’s still enough open country to ride for long distances without having to fight motor vehicle traffic.

Of all the places in the whole world, I would love to take a return vacation to Maui. If I can’t afford Maui, Destin will work. Both places are gorgeous!
