Soon I’ll have to stand on my tippy toes so that we can see eye to clavicle on everything

by Creative Junkie on April 12, 2011

Twice a year, Helena and I go through her closet and I make her try everything on to see if it still fits and she complains the whole time that it takes too long and she’s hungry and she’s hot and why can’t she have a Facebook account and blah blah blah.

I always wind up telling her that if she would just keep the cinder blocks on top of her head like I tell her to, maybe she’d stop growing taller and maybe, just maybe, we wouldn’t have to spend a perfectly good Saturday afternoon listening to me holler ARE YOU SERIOUS? I JUST BOUGHT YOU THOSE JEANS LAST MONTH! CAN’T WE JUST AMPUTATE YOUR ANKLES OR SOMETHING? BY THE WAY, FACEBOOK JUST CALLED AND SAID “BECAUSE YOUR MOM SAID SO.”

I’m 5′ 2″.

My baby, who is going to turn eleven this August, is almost as tall as I am.

So so so bittersweet.

Journaling reads:

It won’t be much longer before you won’t need to stand on anything to reach daddy’s height, or even mine, for that matter. You’ll probably tower over me one day, but my hope is that you’ll always look up to me. (Summer 2007)

I would invest in a good pair of stilts. If the circus is coming through any time soon, I bet you could pick up some there.

But seriously, I feel for you. My son is going to be five in a few weeks. He is almost up to my chest already. FIVE. Makes me want to cry! :(

I feel your pain, been there, done that. One son is 6’1″ and the other is 5’11″. I’m 5’8″. It took a while, but if finally happened – sniff, sniff.

Gorgeous layout! Love the colors and the photo. Also love how you did the title. And my girls are now past me. When you are only 5 feet “tall” it doesn’t take much to have everyone pass ya. :) Blessings,

I have the opposite issue – my kid is still a peanut! So much so that she can wear hand-me-downs from her friends who are in the same grade. At one month away from 8 years old, she still fits into size 6 clothes – maybe, *maybe* sometimes a 7. At 47.5 inches, she hasn’t even cracked the 4 foot mark yet….. She has cousins who are 2, 3, and 4 years younger than her who are her height (the 4 year old) or TALLER. And yes, it bugs her something fierce. I fully expect to find her hanging from the monkey bars ala Bobby Brady one of these days…

Then again, her birthmother is almost 5’9″ so I do reassure her there is a good chance she might sometime hit that essential growth spurt and tower over my 5’5.75″ …. as long as she keeps eating her veggies. :-D

I just went to the store yesterday and spent $100 on clothes for jess. Unfortunately she wears hers out before she is ready for the next size so I have to spend $ on the same sized clothes!!!! That is frustrating!!! But I have convinced her she does not need $60 jeans when no one can tell what kind they are. spend the $$ on shirts. I am lucky that she just likes to think she is fashionable and in but really she is just your average kid. Let’s do lunch soon. I have to work starting May 1.

I know the feeling. I’m only 5’0″ and my 7 year old is almost as tall as me already! Frightening!

What a beautiful page!

They do grow crazy fast… My little bean poles are told constantly (by me) that they are very naughty disobedient children who need to stop getting so big rightthisveryminute! ;)

Little stinkers just laugh at me.

Aww. My 12 year old is like eye to eye to me so I can definitely relate. I plan on doing the try on everything next week while the kids are on Spring Break.

I kid you not, I JUST 10 seconds ago finished measuring my son (12) against my own height or lack thereof). We did the whole back to back thing and I kept pushing down on the top of his head because I was convinced that he was on his toes. He was not on his toes. As of today, 4/13/11, my 12 year old is OFFICIALLY taller than me. I am going to start carrying a step stool around with me so that when he requires reprimanding, I can do it from an appropriate height.

I feel your pain. My 4 year old is 4 ft tall now. With shoes off. Not 4 as in almost 5, but 4 as in 7 more months until he’s 5. I’m obviously growing the Jolly Green giant’s baby. We think he and his 9yo brother will be able to ride the same rides at Hershey this year based on height.

I *love* the journaling! And the photo is just priceless!
My 13 yr old son isn’t quite as tall as others, more like an 8yr old… but he can’t help that. However, that being said, he is STILL growing faster than I can afford pants and shoes! He’ll be the shortest in Jr. High this fall. OMG HE’S GOING TO BE IN JR. HIGH. *wail n flail*

So so so bittersweet, indeed!

I think my daughter will outgrow me by the time she is six at the rate she is going! Love the photo, and I stumbled this post.

Sup Junkie,
My 5 year old ‘Lil Gal is proving to be a weed herself with how fast she’s growing. We’ve accused her of using all sorts of growth products, to which she’s denied any use at all.
Great post. Came over from Laid Off Daddy’s Oreo Terrorism post. Your entry had me laughing and weeping for my future (as father to my daughter) at the same time.
Take ‘er easy.

My 13 year old – she’s taller than me.

My 11 year old could fit in my pocket – she’s a wee titch, ans may soon be overtaken by my son who’s not yet 7. What she doesn’t have in steture she makes up for in feisty determination – a bit like her mum!
